Opus Stewart Weir is proud to announce the recent election of Rob Lonson to the Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) Board of Directors. Rob Lonson is the Vice President of Engineering with over 22 years in Heavy Civil, Highway and Municipal Infrastructure experience. Rob grew up in Alberta and graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSc. in Civil Engineering (Co-op). He has lived in many cities and has worked on projects across Alberta and British Columbia.
As part of his working history, he invested 8 years with a large publicly traded consulting firm developing business experience and knowledge in the field of geotechnical, pavement and materials engineering, as well as environmental consulting.
Approximately 10 years prior to joining Opus Stewart Weir, he was an accomplished senior/executive manager with Alberta Transportation and led multi-disciplined engineering teams. During his 5 years with Opus Stewart Weir, Rob has been focusing on building various integrated engineering consulting services for infrastructure and utility development.
Rob is excited to be part of CEA and is passionate about furthering its’ image and importance with clients as well as enhancing the CEA relationships with various government ministries.
“One of my primary focuses that is gaining momentum is establishing the use of Qualification Based Selection (QBS) for all Alberta Government engineering procurement,” stated Rob. “The QBS procurement system is purely based on qualification and no fees or prices are submitted as part of the proposal; these are negotiated after the preferred consultant is determined and scope jointly created.”
