From planning through to operation

The Opus team provided planning services, preliminary design, budget preparations, construction engineering, inspection and commissioning, and operational support for this comprehensive project.

To address elevated colour, the plant required a pre-treatment system. Due to the site limitations and seasonal variability of the colour, the team selected a ballasted flocculation system. 

Opus DaytonKnight provided planning services, preliminary design, budget preparations, construction engineering, inspection and commissioning, and operational support for the project to construct this pre-treatment system.

The system was awarded to Actiflo© and consists of:

  • A cold weather enclosed slow sand filter
  • Flow control
  • Ballasted flocculation using ACH coagulant and polymer

Disinfection is achieved through the use of 12% sodium hypochlorite and contact time. We also added a post chlorination lime contact tank to increase the pH and provide corrosion protection.

The pre-treatment system provided an additional slow sand filter which increased the run times between filter cleanings.
