Opus International was commissioned by Northwest Connect to conduct a comprehensive road safety audit (RSA) of Northwest Anthony Henday Drive (NWAHD). This multi-phase RSA included a review of the 15 interchanges along the newest addition of The City of Edmonton’s ring road. Pre-opening RSA’s were conducted at various sites throughout the construction phase, which helped aid Northwest Connect identify safety improvements that could be applied to subsequent sections of the ring road which were at an earlier stage of construction. Once the ring road is constructed in its entirety, Opus will conduct a final RSA prior to public opening. Potential improvement options were identified based on the reviews conducted. The improvement options outlined in each RSA were practical, cost-effective suggestions which could be implemented without delaying the project schedule.
