Opus assisted the Museum of New Zealand, (Te Papa Tongarewa), with the initial stages of their Capital Asset Management requirements and the preparation of their 10-year capital expenditure forecast to support an application for funding. While Te Papa is a relatively new facility (it opened on 14 February 1998 on Wellington’s waterfront) there is an expectation of an increasing capital expenditure requirement as the museum moves into the second decade of its lifecycle.
We were able to draw on and utilise the expertise of our in-house valuer and economist, our IT data expert, and our property management team. The task involved a review of the museums objectives and reason for being, along with a thorough understanding of the building functions and other assets and the way these were captured and interpreted in their Capital Assets Register.
