Opus’ Venture Quays project on the Isle of Wight, won the Overall Prestige award & Maritime Award from ICE Southern Branch in 2007.
The project required an economic and robust design to extend the usable quay-side facilities in front of Venture Quays from 1500m² to 8500m². This was achieved by demolition of the existing structures and establishing an area of reclamation formed by using large rocks and a sheet piled wall. A boat hoist dock and pontoons, plus a suspended deck and a new running surface for the enlarged concrete apron were constructed.
Opus was responsible for the outline design, consents and contract document compilation for this project which was awarded as a design & build. Opus supervised the contract for the formation of the new reclamation area and hoist dock, initially used for commercial purposes.
The quay is part of the proposed new East Cowes development for a large ‘super yacht’ facility to create a loading facility for a turbine blade manufacturing plant.
