Lorimer Road Pipeline

Construction administration for a transmission main and well collector pipe

When this project was completed the finished Valley Trail was restored to the original condition – an important factor for this popular resort area of Whistler.

The alignment followed a narrow 5.5m right-of-way within a sensitive environmental area. Any construction impact outside this limit would constitute a DFO infraction.

Due to poor soils Opus DaytonKnight designed a trench detail which floats the pipeline on the compressible soils. The alignment required crossing four fish bearing waterways - using a pipeline flyover, an existing bridge, the existing culverts and an undercrossing. The pipeline also crossed the CN railway through a jacked carrier pipe.

The pipeline included a cathodic protection system and we designed a grounding and surge suppression system to deal with the local proximity to the BC Hydro high voltage lines.
